PROP Simon Chadbone bagged a brace of tries as Oxford Harlequins kept up their promotion bid by winning 25-10 at Reading Abbey in South West 1.

It was a good day for Quins' front row as hooker Dave Needham scored his first try for the club, while flanker Matt Young was outstanding in attack and defence.

Quins started out strongly, but fell behind in the 12th minute to a penalty by Abbey full back Tom Waterhouse Three minutes later, Quins skipper and fly half Owen Gustafson made a break to the halfway line.

Excellent play by forwards and backs interchanging finally saw hooker Needham go over near the corner.

With No 8 Paddy Soper supplying much ball and locks James Eckert and Carl Cimpoais combining well in the set-pieces, Quins kept the pressure on.

But it was not until the 31st minute that they increased their lead with a penalty by left wing Pete Davis.

In the 35th minute, play was switched several times before Chadbone appeared on the left wing to dive over for a try.

Then right on half-time, winger Elio Recchia's break enabled centre Beau Wilson to burst through and Davis converted for 20-3.

In the second half, flanker Ali Cradock came on for Tim Knapp and Jez Tanner replaced Recchia.

On 53 minutes, a forward drive and switches of play created space for Chadbone to power over for his second try.

Quins seemed to take their foot off the pedal and only two crunching tackles by Eckert stopped Abbey in their tracks.

Abbey came on strong, but excellent line-kicking by centre Jake White drove them back time after time.

It was not until the 76th minute that the hosts broke through with Waterhouse converting his own consolation try.
