MITCH Burton picked up a full house of scores as Henley Hawks ground out a 16-10 victory at Bradford & Bingley in National 2.

The fly half maintained his excellent form with two penalties, a drop goal, a try and a conversion to keep Henley in touch with second-placed Launceston.

Burton's conversion put Hawks 16-3 up after 45 minutes and they only conceded a try after No 8 Dave Archer had been sin-binned.

A 40-metre penalty from Burton gave Henley the lead, but Tom Rhodes levelled with a drop goal after some concerted pressure.

Hawks had some good moments in the line-outs where lock Rob Hurrell turned over two in succession, while flankers Stean Williams and Jon Tenconi had the ascendency in the rucks.

A break supported by Jim Farndon was the prelude to Burton's drop goal, while his second penalty made it 9-3 at the break.

The best move of the half saw Adam Slade set free from about 30 metres, but he was caught before he could make the line.

Fortune favoured Henley on 45 minutes when Rhodes's chip kick was blocked and Burton outpaced a stunned Bees backline to score.

He then added the extra points with an accomplished kick.

Hawks were now looking at bonus points, but they lost the initiative and Bradford No 8 Hese Fakatou broke past scrum half James Gaunt to score. Rhodes converted.

Fakatou was sin-binned for illegally stopping a Henley maul just short of the try line, but no penalty try was awarded.

At the other end, home centre John Simpson ignored a two-man overlap and was brought down by a fine tackle from Burton.

Henley have now won as many games as they managed last season, but need to pick up more bonus points.
