Scargill got off the mark for West Ilsley trainer Mick Channon with a gutsy victory at Redcar yesterday.
The two-year-old colt, who carries the name of the former National Union of Mineworkers president, dug deep for Sam Hitchcott to get up in the last stride and beat Gin Time by a short head in a five-furlong selling stakes.
