OXFORD City Stars rounded off their South Division 2 campaign with a bang – and then the celebrations could really begin.

The champions beat Bristol Pitbulls 4-3 in their final game of the season, before being handed the league trophy following a sensational run.

Stars have won 14 games in a row and end the season seven points clear of their nearest rivals on top of the table.

And it was fitting that player-coach Darren Elliott was the star of their final success of the season, hitting a hat-trick as his side battled to victory.

Both teams started well, Elliott firing Stars ahead after five minutes following a pass from Josh Oliver.

Pitbulls quickly bounced back, however, when Richie Hargreaves worked his way in front of the Stars net and fired into the top-right corner.

The remainder of the first period was littered with penalties, but neither side could take advantage.

However, Pitbulls did then score when Dax Hedges picked up an interference penalty in the second period, Liam Williams netting.

Joe Edwards levelled for Stars, before Elliott put them ahead with Bristol a man down.

Elliott completed his hat-trick, firing home with 44 seconds of the period remaining to make it 4-2.

They were, however, forced to dig deep in the final period, seeing their lead cut when Matthew Thornhill picked up Bristol’s third.

Pitbulls were denied an equaliser when the referee adjudged a shot to have rebounded off the bar, when the visitors were convinced it had crossed the line.

But Stars saw out time to complete a memorable season – before the party started.
