An Oxfordshire side grabbed the glory in the fours competition at the English Short Mat Bowling Association National Championships at Bromsgrove.

The quartet of Geoff Cross, Tim Cross, Gareth Davies and Andrew Brown crushed a Cornwall four, led by Peter Hore, 17-5 in the final.

In the semi-finals, Brown’s men needed an extra end to pip Shropshire 7-6, while they defeated Norfolk 11-6 in the quarter-finals.

Oxon won eight matches in total to take the title.

They beat fours from London, Gloucester and Warwickshire to win their group, and then saw off West Sussex 9-6 in round two, before defeating another Cornwall four 10-2 in the last 16.

WOOTTON'S Geoff Cross, Gareth Davies and Andrew Brown beat clubmates Tim Cross, Ruth Cross and Bob Cummings 11-4 in the Wallingford Triples final at the Regal Centre, Wallingford.

DALE Hall was crowned Oxford City & County’s men’s indoor singles champion at the club’s finals weekend.

Jane Murphy took the ladies singles title, defeating Sue Stewart in the final.
