West Oxford Democrats Club clinched the Johnsons Buildbase Oxford League Section 1 title by the narrowest of margins, writes PETE EWINS.
Democrats won 3-2 at Headington Conservative Club, while rivals Masons A triumphed 4-1 at home to Marlborough, which meant they finished level on 75 points.
However, Democrats were crowned champions on the head-to-head record between the two teams after beating Masons 6-4 on aggregate in their two encounters.
Democrats were tied all-square with Headington, with Eddie Tebby and Billy Hill (9,680) on target, before Terry Green gained the crucial point with a 1,640-1,150 victory over Dave Gordon.
Masons A’s winners against Marlborough were Robin Godfrey (8,280), Dave Rose, Martyn Wood and Maxi McDonnell.
KENNINGTON reached the Scotlands Ash League Cup final after beating Vikings 3-2 on the Gladiators top, led by Pauline Withey (5,490) and Mark Trafford (11,660).
OXFORD Ladies captain Pauline Withey won the furthest lady prize and also the highest ladies’ break of 9,830 at the Surrey Open.
