SEAN Rigg says he will not feel a tinge of disappointment if Port Vale secure automatic promotion tomorrow.

Micky Adams’s side will guarantee a top three finish if they beat Northampton and either Rotherham or Burton fail to win.

Rigg would have been part of the celebrations, but he turned down a new contract at Vale Park to join Oxford United last summer.

Despite the U’s falling short of the top seven this season, the winger insists it was the right move.

He said: “I’m happy for my mates, it’s obviously great for them that they’re going up, but I’ve got no regrets in life.

“You take an opportunity at the time and whatever you decide to do that’s the right thing at the time.

“I’m happy to be an Oxford United player.”

The 25-year-old thinks the two clubs have plenty in common, particularly when it comes to the supporters.

He said: “It’s similar to how it was at Port Vale, the fans are really ambitious and know we should be higher than we are.

“To be fair they have been good for us this season, considering we haven’t made the play-offs.

“They’ve stuck with us when we were on a bad run earlier in the season. They could have turned against us, but they didn’t and that’s a good thing.”
