OXFORD City continued their hectic end-of-season programme with a point from a 1-1 draw against Gainsborough Trinity at Marsh Lane in Blue Square North.

A penalty from Jamie Cook earned them a share of the spoils after the visitors had taken an early lead.

Neither side could establish supremacy in the opening stages, although Felipe Barcelos forced a save out of Trinity keeper Jason White from a Mark Bell free-kick.

Gainsborough went ahead on 15 minutes from a John Williams free-kick which was met by Luke Waterfall. His header flew over the outstretched arms of keeper Juan Leiva.

City came back strongly and Cook had a chance to make it 1-1, but delayed his shot and the visitors were able to clear.

However, City’s pressure told after 37 minutes with the equaliser as Waterfall went from hero to villian by bringing down Cook, who got up to score from the spot.

Leiva pulled off a fine stop from Jamie Yates to keep it all square at the break.

In the second half, Williams found the side netting for Trinity, although chances were at a premium.

City’s best effort came from Bell, who forced a smart stop from White.
