Aston Rowant were relegated from Serious Cricket Home Counties Premier League Division 1 following a devastating 17-run defeat at Tring Park on Saturday.

Their loss combined with Harefield’s shock 15-run victory at Banbury saw Rowant drop into the bottom two on a dramatic last day.

Rowant, who were promoted last year as part of the league restructure, put Tring in to bat after winning the toss, and the hosts proceeded to rattle up 268-4 off 50 overs.

Rowant had the hosts 104-3, but Tom Helm and Michael Payne shared a stand of 105 before the former fell for 97 from 127 deliveries, which contained seven fours and three sixes.

Payne continued the onslaught, finishing unbeaten on 88 from 69 balls, which included ten fours and a six.

Rowant used seven bowlers, but not England Under 19 off-spinner Miles Hammond.

The Gloucestershire teenager shone with the bat, though, making a fluent 59 off 42 balls.

Richard Cook (46) and Smith (45) also chipped in before Rowant were all out for 251.
