Oxfordshire Girls overcame the handicap of batting first on a ‘green’ pitch to beat hosts Warwickshire by 25 runs in the ECB Under 15 County Championship at Old Edwardiians CC.

Oxon were indebted to a third-wicket stand of 68 between Lucy Thomas (36) and Sophie Mitchelmore (46).

Rachel Potter’s brisk 31 and a useful 28 not out from Deanna Stamp ensured a competitive score of 193-6 from their 40 overs.

Rain intervened after tea, giving Warwicks a revised target of 159 from 33 overs.

They were halted in their tracks by spinners Charlie Noble and Mara Smith, who took the key wicket of Tiarna Gilkes for 42.

From that point on, Oxfordshire squeezed their opponents out of the game.
