STEFANIE Collins has captained England to the women’s basketball final on the Gold Coast.

The 35-year-old, from Upper Heyford, helped her side beat Canada 65-53 in this morning’s last-four tie.

England will face either Australia or New Zealand in tomorrow’s final at 11.30am BST.

Collins played just over 28 minutes in the victory, scoring seven points at the Gold Cost Convention and Exhibition Centre.

England showed great character to reach the gold medal match, having lost 80-54 to Canada in the pool stages.

Oxford City AC athlete Nathan Douglas is also bidding for gold tomorrow.

The 35-year-old competes in the 11-man triple jump final at the Carrara Stadium from 6.15am.

Meanwhile, the rugby sevens competition gets underway tomorrow, with former Oxford University half back Tom Mitchell captaining England.

They begin their campaign at 12.53pm against Jamaica in Pool B.
