GAVIN Whyte has been called up into the full Northern Ireland squad.
The winger has made a huge impact at Oxford United following his summer move from Crusaders.
The 22-year-old was originally named in his country’s under 21 squad.
But he is now in contention to face Bosnia & Herzegovina and Israel in UEFA Nations League and International challenge matches at home on Saturday, September 8 and Tuesday, September 11.
Whyte will miss United’s televised Sky Bet League One game against Coventry City on Sunday, September 9.
U’s boss Karl Robinson feels his inclusion is justified.
“It’s fully deserved,” he said.
“He has seized his chance here and done really well and we’re really pleased for him.
“Hopefully he now shows what he can do on the international stage.”
Meanwhile, U’s midfielder Aaron Heap has also been called up by Northern Ireland, this time for the under 19 squad to play two friendlies against Slovakia.
Another under 23 player, Dejon Noel-Williams, has joined Premier Division South side Chesham on a month’s loan.
He could make his debut at home to Wimborne in the Evo-Stik South League today.
