AN EMPHATIC win from Oxfordshire Men’s B team could not prevent an overall defeat in their BDO

Inter-Counties Championship match in Devon.

The visitors were up against it early on, with only Cath Birch taking a point for the Ladies’ B-string.

But Oxon held a 10-8 lead overnight, via a 9-3 success from the Men’s B side.

Debutant Andy Tompkins and Liam Gregor got them off to a strong start.

After the hosts levelled, Steve Dennett started a run of seven wins from eight matches as Terry Wood, Andy Thomas, Darren Hammond, Simon Key, debutant Matt Smith and Stuart White won.

Again Devon’s ladies were too strong, with Deta Hedman picking up the visitors’ only point.

This time the Men’s A string could not repeat the feat of their B squad, losing 7-5.

Lee Russell provided their only win in the first seven matches, as Devon secured the overall victory.

Sean Holley, Pete Hall – making his 150th appearance – Tom Baughan and George Grant reduced the arrears.
