OXFORD will have two representatives in the Emirates FA Cup second round draw tonight.

It is only the third occurrence, after 1966/67 and 1999/2000, but Oxford United and Oxford City will be feeling very different emotions after draws on Saturday earned replays next week.

Kabongo Tshimanga’s hat-trick saw City come agonisingly close to the shock of the round before conceding an 89th-minute equaliser to draw 3-3 at Tranmere Rovers.

By contrast the U’s should feel relief they avoided an upset after surviving a late scare in a 0-0 draw at home to Forest Green Rovers.

While City’s heartbreak against Sky Bet League Two opposition came late, they have a home replay which has a strong case for lucrative television coverage.

And the mood at Prenton Park was upbeat.

Tshimanga, so close to being the match-winner, said: “Obviously for us it was a big game, we all knew that, playing against a league side.

“We knew it wasn’t going to be easy, but we stuck at it and were unlucky to not get it in the end.

“The way that we played against a side two leagues above us was brilliant, and I’m delighted to get the three goals.”

Justin Merritt, City’s director of football, said: “We just urged the players to go out and enjoy it, and we did, we had nothing to lose.

“Sitting looking at the scoreboard, it was an incredibly proud moment for us as a group of staff.

“We’re absolutely delighted, the boys have given more than enough.”

Meanwhile, United laboured in their attempts to break down a Rovers side who sat deep.

Clear-cut chances were at a premium for the home side, who were let off the hook three times by the visitors’ poor finishing.

Goalkeeper Simon Eastwood admitted they could count themselves slightly fortunate to have a second crack at going through in Gloucestershire next week.

“Probably, but we’ve dug it out and stayed in it as late as we could,” he said.

“It wasn’t the greatest performance ever, but we’re still in the hat for Monday night.”

“It was a little bit flat and the fans weren’t too happy at the

end.

“You can see why, but at the end of the day we haven’t lost and we’re in the draw for the next round.”

Boss Karl Robinson said: “Their chances came from our over-eagerness and our sloppiness and they hit us.

“It’s what we’ve done to teams in recent weeks.

“They will say they had the best chances and possibly they did, but overall we were probably the best team.”

He added: “They came to sit deeper and make it difficult for us.

“I’m not angry or massively disappointed, I just wish we were a little bit piercing in our decision-making in the final third.”

United and Forest Green will be ball 23 in the draw, which starts at 7pm, while City and Tranmere are 24.
