CITY of Oxford had double reason to celebrate in the last National Arena South Division meeting of the season.

The club’s first team clinched their place in the A final in Cardiff next March, while their B squad secured promotion into Division 1 (South) West.

City’s top team went into the final round of the Premier Division South campaign in third, needing to hold on to that position to reach the final.

They did just that, helped by breaking three South East Regional records in relay events.

Their girls 4x50m freestyle team of Evie Mclean, Illizane Pinfold, Delphine Little and Safiyah Sillah, and girls 4x50m medlay squad comprising Mimi Morley Iszatt, Pinfold, Little and Mclean set new bests.

Not to be outdone, the boys 4x50m freestyle quartet of Nick Skelton, Billy Wotton, Chris Simms and Geo Ratouly were also record-breakers.

City’s B team went into the final round of Division 2 (South) West ranked fourth, needing to finish ahead of third-placed Guildford.

They succeeded, coming second on the night and third overall to book their place in Division 1 (South) West for the 2019/2020 season.

Witney won promotion to Division 1 of the National Arena League for the first time in 15 years

Eleanor Perks, 13, led the way in the final for the top six clubs in the West Midland region, winning the 13/u and 15/u 100m breaststroke, along with contributions in the relays.

Witney ended the season fourth in Division 2.

Maya Thorsdottir-Saldana and William Phair were winners in the 11/u age group, while Lauren Mellings was victorious in the open category.

Cameron Richards was a 15/u runner-up over 100m in the backstroke and butterfly, while in the same age group Ella Edwards was second in the 100m butterfly and 200m individual medley.

Clubmate Georgia Duff enjoyed success at the Scottish National Short Course Championships in Edinburgh.

She set personal bests in the 100m butterfly and 50m backstroke and finished as the tenth fastest 16-year-old in both.

Kidlington's Magnus Paulini-Torrance picked up a hat-trick of National Arena League wins in the boys 11/u 50m breaststroke.

The club’s under 11 girls were also in fine form, winning the 4x50m freestyle relay, with Alexia Janssen triumphing in the 50m butterfly.

Other victories came from the Zak Gibson taking first place in the 100m backstroke in a pb of 1.01.59, Ian Surrage claiming gold in the 100m breaststroke and an emphatic victory in the 4x50m medley relay.

This was the team’s first season back in the competition for more than ten years, finishing seventh in Division 2 (South) West.
