OXFORD United’s success against the league leaders was all down to keeping it simple, according to Rob Dickie.

A 2-1 victory against Portsmouth was the U’s stand-out result of the campaign and lifted them out of the Sky Bet League One drop zone.

The visitors had few clear chances and their goal came, from an error for which Dickie held his hands up.

But overall the centre back was delighted at how United had performed.

He said: “It was a massive win, we’re really over the moon with it.

“The only chance they had came from my mistake.

“I should have gone with my left foot, it’s just a learning curve for me.

“It would have been nice to get a clean sheet, but most importantly we won the game.

“It just shows if you do the simple things well you beat the team at the top, so what could we do against the rest of the league?”

There were more than 25 minutes remaining when Portsmouth halved United’s lead.

But Dickie paid tribute to a noisy home support for getting the side through unscathed.

He said: “The fans were unbelievable. Obviously Pompey brought their mob and our crowd made sure they were louder and pushed us over the line at the end.

“Heads could have gone down and it was a nervous end, to the game but it was good we came through that.”
