OXFORDSHIRE let a winning position slip as they crashed to a 25-14 defeat at home to Cornwall.

The hosts led 10-8 after the first day’s action in the BDO Inter-Counties Championship clash, before stumbling to a heavy loss.

Cali Birch got Oxon off to a good start, but the Ladies’ B team needed victories in the last two matches from Jaine Telling and Allyson Thomson to draw 3-3.

The in-form Men’s B side again delivered, coming out 7-5 winners.

Pete Smith came from 3-0 down to win the opener and was quickly followed by Brandon Richardson and Terry Wood.

Cornwall hit back, but Andrew Quinn, man of the match Mark Laverack, Simon Key and Simon Tricker all contributed to an overnight lead.

The slender advantage was wiped out by a 4-2 defeat in the Ladies’ A match, where Karen Williams and lady of the match Deta Hedman were the home side’s winners.

But the contest was not in the balance for long.

Adam Bowman and Kevin Lowe were Oxfordshire’s only successes in a 10-2 defeat which left them fourth bottom in Division 1.

Their next match is away to Nottinghamshire on March 2-3.
