It's the big night of the year for The Oxford Times Cherwell League tonight (Friday), when more than 100 cricketers from Oxfordshire and surrounding counties attend the presentation evening at the Spread Eagle Hotel in Thame.

Buckingham were this year's major winners, landing the Division 1 title and securing promotion to the Home Counties Premier League.

Other winners such as the most successful team, plus the leading batsman and bowler for the season, will be announced at the event, which starts at 7.30pm.

The Cherwell still have not heard the result of Aston Rowant's appeal against relegation from Home Counties Division 2 West.

Rowant finished in the third relegation position, but have appealed on the grounds that Burnham - one of the other relegation contenders - fielded an ineligible player in their final game of the season against Kidlington, who are supporting the appeal and have supplied information to the appellants.

A spokesman from the Home Counties League said the appeal hearing "was not imminent".

Both the Cherwell and Thames Valley League - the two feeder competitions for the Home Counties - will be eager to hear the result as it will affect promotion and relegation issues throughout their leagues.

A full report and pictures of the night will appear in next week's Oxford Times.
