JACK Stevens was thrilled to make a contribution after being thrust into the spotlight for his long-awaited Oxford United debut.
The goalkeeper was handed the chance after Simon Eastwood was sent off for catching the ball outside his penalty area with the U's 2-1 up against Charlton Athletic.
There was still more than half an hour remaining, but Stevens played his part to preserve the lead and claim a big victory.
He said: "Obviously it’s not the best circumstances to come on, but it was a crazy game.
"You’re always prepared to come on, but most of the time it’s never going to happen.

"It was a shock, but I feel like I’m ready. I was just happy to contribute towards a win."
The 21-year-old, who became the 100th United academy graduate to play for the first team made one outstanding save to deny Patrick Bauer an equaliser.
He said: "It was a cross that came in. He hit a half volley, it hit my left hand and bounced up.
"I didn’t know where it was but luckily I managed to get it off the line.
"I knew I’d kept it out, but I was more worried about the phase afterwards but Longy (Sam Long) helped me out and put it for a corner."
