LUKE Garbutt is unsure what the future holds, but playing regularly will be top of his wish-list this summer.

While the 25-year-old had a shaky start to the loan from Everton, he has featured in 35 games this season.

If he plays in the final two matches it will equal his total for the previous three years and match his highest tally for a campaign – set at Cheltenham Town in 2011/12.

With a year still left on his contract at Goodison Park, the former England Under 21 international is open-minded about what happens next.

He said: “We’ll have to see what options are out there, I’ll sit down with my agent and Everton and work out a plan as to what I do moving forward.

“It’s something I’d like to keep private for the time being. I just love playing.

“I want to get out there and perform to the levels I’m at now and get better.

“I’m at that age now where I just want to be playing every week.

“We’ll see what happens in the summer.”

Garbutt’s lack of football saw him struggle in the opening weeks of the season, where he lost the left back role to Josh Ruffels and struggled to get back into the side.

But he has thrived since being reinvented as a left-sided attacker, contributing to the U’s superb form in recent weeks.

It has included key strikes in wins over Walsall and Charlton Athletic.

He said: “Everyone knows the troubles at the start of the season, for me and the team.

“But I think after Christmas the whole club has been on a positive run.

“With the fans on side and the way we’re playing it’s really enjoyable to be a part of.

“We’ve got a togetherness now and a way of playing that’s getting us results. Long may that continue.”
