OXFORD Saints claimed their first win of the 2019 campaign with a 24-12 success at Berkshire Renegades.

Having lost their opening two matches of the BAFA SFC 1 Central season, it was just what was needed to get up and running.

The visitors set the tone early with an interception from defensive back Michael Bird to stop Berkshire’s first drive.

From there James Sharples, returning as quarterback after missing the first two games, found wide receiver Chris Daniels to put Saints 7-0 ahead.

Berkshire replied before half-time with their own touchdown, but the extra point attempt was blocked.

The third quarter was tight until Saints captain Sam Stancombe intercepted a pass and ran in to give Saints a 14-6 lead.

Another reply from the home side failed to add the extra point, but from there Saints’ defence took control.

Their offence then delivered, Tony Glover streaking in for the away side’s third touchdown to make it 21-12.

Kicker Charlie Hill capped off a solid day with an impressive 34-yard field goal.
