ROCK-BOTTOM Witney Town recorded the shock of the Oxford & District League campaign, stunning second-placed Banbury Central 5-1.

The Division 1 basement side doubled their points tally for the season with a sensational victory.

Brian Bloomfield and Paul Demczak’s rinks led from early on, while Phil Warner’s men secured victory.

The only rink Banbury won was a close call, Will Campion boasting an 11-2 lead after five ends, but eventually scraping home 15-14 against Alan Scholan’s men.

West Witney defeated Witney Mills 4-2, with Shane Cooper’s rink recording the most one-sided victory in the league, beating Les Days 39-2.

Headington surged further clear at the top, beating Watlington 5-1.

Adrian Kemish’s rink won by a single shot to provide the visitors with their only point.

In Division 2, leaders City & County outplayed Kidlington to win 5-1.

They were denied a whitewash when James Feeley’s rink won comfortably.

Adderbury are second, but six-and-a-half points behind City after a 6-0 whitewash of South Oxford.

Headington saw off Charlbury 3½-2½ in the division's other clash.

Bicester remain top of Division 3, but were given a scare by Chadlington before running out 4-2 winners.

Banbury Central B, who a few weeks ago were battling relegation, are now second after a 5-1 victory over Thame.

Elsewhere, Bloxham saw off Hanborough 5-1.

Woodstock remain top of Division 4, but saw lead was reduced after losing 4-2 to West Oxford.

They are now four-and-a-half points ahead of City & County B, who beat Blackbird Leys 5-1.

South Oxford’s Dennis Simms looked to be heading for an easy win against Oxford University Press’s Geoff Jordan’s rink, only to drop seven shots over the final three ends to be pegged back in an unlikely draw.

However, this was OUP's sole score in a 5½-½ defeat.
