Oxfordshire's young star Charlotte Crampton Smith has been called up by England Under 18s for the Home Nations Tournament.

The 17-year-old, from Marcham, near Abingdon, is one of the strikers England will be looking to try to get some goals against Scotland, Wales and Ireland, in the tournament at Cardiff next week.

It's the second time that Charlotte, who used to study at the Dragon School, but now attends Millfield School in Somerset, has been selected for England.

She said: "I played for them in a Four Nations Tournament at Easter when we took a squad of 18.

"I played in most of the games. We lost to Spain, beat Germany and drew with the Netherlands then, but just missed out on a first or second place because of our goals record after three teams finished with the same number of points.

"I didn't manage to score then, but I'm hoping to get a goal or two this time.

"Another girl from Millfield - a goalkeeper - is in the squad and going along as well."

Crampton Smith, who began playing hockey when she was seven, has turned out in the occasional friendly match for Oxford Hawks, and plays for West of England in the regional tournaments.

The Royal Oxford hotel, in Park End Street, Oxford, where she had a spell on work experience, are paying her travel expenses for Cardiff.
