Kidlington face being thrown out of The Oxford Times Cherwell League.

The shock news comes after the league's executive unanimously approved a proposal at their meeting on Monday requiring the controversial club to apply for re-election at the AGM.

Now Kidlington's fate lies in the hands of the league's clubs, who are set to vote on their future at the annual meeting on Thursday, November 27.

It comes after a catalogue of misdemeanours, which have seen the club become the laughing stock of Oxfordshire cricket.

In the latest case, Kidlington's 2nd and 3rd XIs were both deducted ten points.

This penalty was inflicted after Kidlington 2nd fielded ten men against Bicester & North Oxford 3rd on August 16, while on the same day their 3rd XI faced Great & Little Tew 3rd with 11 - in contravention of the playing rules.

In another case, which has just been ruled on, Kidlington 2nd have lost the 25 points they picked up from their win against Sandford St Martin 2nd on July 12 after it was discovered they played Tim Dredge, who was registered with Staffordshire side Milford House.

The match was awarded to Sandford, who receive the full 25 points.

These two cases and various other incidents this season led Don Brooks, chairman of the Cherwell's umpires sub-committee, to propose that Kidlington should apply for re-election at this year's AGM.

League secretary Peter Tomlin said: "This is not a witchhunt. Things will become clear and the clubs will be contacted will full details.

"This was a unanimous decision by the committee and the clubs will have to decide when the final proposal is published at the AGM."

Kidlington chairman Nick Duval was unavailable to comment.
