OXFORD United’s experienced goalkeeper Billy Tur-ley will be sidelined for just two weeks.

Results from a scan on a tear in his calf were better than expected, and the 35-year-old should be back in action at the end of the month.

It means the U’s will not need to dip into the transfer market for an on-loan keeper as back-up to Ryan Clarke.

For tomorrow’s game at York, manager Chris Wilder will probably do without a keeper on the bench, as indeed his York counterpart Martin Foyle does most matches.

Wilder said: “Billy will hopefully be back for the FA Cup game against Thurrock, and he’ll definitely be back for the Altrincham game.

“It’s nothing too serious. We thought the tear was going to be a lot worse, but it isn’t, so we’ll have Billy back sooner rather than later, which is good.”

League leaders Oxford face another severe test against York, who gave Wilder’s men a big scare on the opening day of the season before two very late goals pulled the match out of the fire.

“Yes, that possibly was a wake-up call – but we never underestimated York by any stretch,” Wilder said.

“York were excellent on the day. They were better than us and deserved something out of the game.

“The first match of the season always throws up odd results and strange performances, and I’m not going to beat about the bush, we were ordinary.

“But we showed a great desire to get something out of the game.

“On another day, we could have lost and probably shouldn’t have won, but we did and we took strength from that.

“There are a lot of hurdles that we have to get over if we want to be successful, and Saturday’s one of the biggest.”

Wide midfielders Sam Deering and Alfie Potter are back in contention for places on the bench at KitKat Crescent.

Deering has returned from his loan spell at Newport County after United turned down a request to extend it.
