Onome Sodje is hoping he can sign off with another goal at Rushden on Friday after he bagged his first for Oxford United at Salisbury.

The on-loan Barnsley striker will return to Oakwell next week, but can play at Nene Park - if the match survives the wintry weather.

He said: “It was nice to get a goal, but it was a disappointing result for us because it was a game we were looking to win, especially after taking the lead.

“Salisbury’s a difficult place to come but our supporters turned out massively for us.

“It was a great ball by Chappy (Adam Chapman) and I just sneaked behind a defender and was able to get good contact on it.

“But to have them equalising two minutes from the end was a real blow. It was never a throw-in to them, I think it was a big mistake from the linesman. If it was our throw, the whole thing changes.”

Sodje had had a stop-start month, partly because of the postponements.

He said: “I’ve had a couple of stinkers with games called off, but you get that at this time of year.

“We came in on Christmas Day and prepared properly and, to be fair, the weather was fantastic for three days before the game, so we thought the game on Boxing Day was going to be on.

“We didn’t think there was any chance of the game being called off.”

So Oxford and Rushden will try again on Friday.

Sodje added: “Hopefully, the weather won’t affect this game and it will be on. They’ve got a great pitch there and I think that should help to make it all right.”
