Jason Crump is proving uncatchable after a fantastic night at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium on Saturday.

When you look at the GP line-up there only about half a dozen capable oflanding the world title, but at present no one is as hungry as the formerCheetahs No 1, remembered famously for his days at Cowley by landing a lefthook on Todd Wiltshire!

Crump admits he is "staggered" by the 34-point lead he now holds in the World Championship race after his third successive GP victory.

He conceded that he was fortunate to win the FIM Fiat Vans Grand Prix of Great Britain in front of a 40,000 plus crowd.

Greg Hancock, who Crump had forced into second place in each of the two previous rounds, again topped the qualifiers. He was leading the final until Poland's Jaroslaw Hampel made a stunning inside pass on lap two.

As Hancock made a frantic effort to regain the lead, he lost control and crashed.

This gave Crump, who was last at the time, a second chance following the referee's decision to exclude the American.

"I wasn't going to make such a bad start again," said Crump, who rocketed into the lead and raced home ahead of Sweden's Andreas Jonsson and Hampel.

"I feel really sorry for Greg," added Crump.

"I left here a year ago bitterly disappointed after being excluded from three of my races.

"These things go around and I am delighted to have won at Cardiff at last. Things are obviously going my way I think I'll buy a lottery ticket!"Crump's nearest rival before this round was Denmark's Nicki Pedersen but hehad a disastrous night and never recovered from a first race engine failure. He failed to reach the final and is now two points behind Hancock in theoverall standings.

Speedway's biggest crowd for 25 years enjoyed a magnificent event, full of drama, but Crump is now the runaway leader.

"There are still six rounds to go and I never expected a lead like this," said Crump. "But I'll take it.

"I have won British GPs before, but never at Cardiff so this is special.

"It is one we all want to win."
