Oxford United boss Chris Wilder will wait on the fitness of Mark Creighton before naming his side to take on Aldershot at the Kassam Stadium today.

The big centre half fractured a toe in the 1-1 draw at Cheltenham 11 days ago, ruling him out of last weekend’s win over table-topping Port Vale.

But Creighton has been able to train and, providing he came through yesterday’s session without any reaction, will be involved today.

Whether he comes straight back into the side at the expense of Leigh Franks, however, is the decision Wilder faces.

“Creights will be involved for this Saturday,” Wilder said.

“It’s a difficult one with a toe injury, he’s had to sit out ten days, but we know that he can’t really do a lot more damage to it.

“He’s prepared to be involved, and will be involved.”

And United’s other fitness news is good, with Jake Wright and Damian Batt nearing returns.

“Anthony Tonkin is back, and Jake and Damian are possibly two or three weeks away,” Wilder added.

“Hopefully Jake will be available for selection for the Northampton game in a fortnight, and Damian maybe one more after that.

“We’re getting people back and that’s testament to how hard they’ve worked.”

Another player getting ever closer to full match fitness is Simon Clist.

A near ever-present last season, he missed the start of this campaign following a hernia operation in the summer, but played in the United XI’s midweek friendly win at Fulham.

“It will only happen with minutes on the pitch, and minutes on the training ground,” said Wilder. “He’s pushing and there are a lot of people pushing to get into the team, which is a healthy position for myself.”

Wilder has already urged his team to keep to the standards they showed against Port Vale.

“There are going to be times when we have our off-days, but I’ve got to make sure we keep our foot down and keep up our standards.

“We’ve had a decent start and we just have to try and maintain that, against some very decent sides in the league – and none more so than Aldershot today.”
