Oxfordshire's Minor Counties Championship Western Division campaign finally got under way at Challow & Childrey yesterday with a clatter of wickets as the hosts crashed to 150 all out against Wiltshire.

After Sunday’s wash-out, it wasn’t until 1pm that the ground was fit for play.

And having won the toss and elected to field, Wiltshire, who ended the day on 180-6 in reply, shot out Oxfordshire inside 46 overs with seamers Simon Rose (5-40) and Tahir Afridi (5-57) doing the damage.

They quickly reduced Oxon to 25-4 as Rose removed Richard Kaufman and Damian Shirazi, caught at mid on and mid off by Jayden Levitt.

Left-armer Afridi had Rob Williams caught at short leg by Edward Kilbee, before Alex Jewell became Rose’s third victim with Ash Morrison taking the chance at third slip.

Lloyd Sabin was then bowled by Afridi to make it 42-5.

Jack Taylor stopped the rot with 55 off 87 balls, including nine fours and a six, before he was adjudged lbw to Afridi.

Championship debutant Chad Keegan suffered a similar fate with Rose doing the damage, before skipper Ian Hawtin was bowled by Afridi.

When fellow new boy Jamie Perkin also had his stumps rattled by Afridi for a patient 30, Oxon were 126-9.

Ashley Blanchard took them to 150 before he was caught behind by Steve Bullen off Rose.

Oxon needed to fight back, and to their credit, they did so.

Jack Taylor’s off-spin made the breakthrough when he won an lbw decision against Levitt to leave Wiltshire 34-1.

Blanchard then took two wickets with the score on 56, firstly enticing Luke Staugh-ton into nicking a delivery behind to Hawtin, before he bowled Joe Breet.

But Kilbee and Henry Langford shared a stand of 94, before the former was trapped lbw by debutant Matt Taylor for 60 off 93 balls, which included eight fours and a six.

Jack Taylor then removed Henry Langford for 46, caught by Keegan, who trapped Morrison lbw to signal the close.

Scores: Oxfordshire 150 (J Taylor 55, S Rose 5-40, T Afridi 5-7), Wiltshire 180-6 (E Kilbee 60).
