Oxfordshire's opening Western Division match of the new campaign fizzled out into a predictable draw against Wiltshire at Challow & Childrey.

Sunday’s wash-out and the loss of Monday morning’s session due to a damp ground meant there was likely to be only one outcome.

Oxon did themselves few favours in the first innings however, when they succumbed to 150 all out, but they fought back well.

Wilshire, resuming on their overnight score of 180-6, lost their last four wickets for the addition of just 43 runs as former Middlesex and Sussex fast bowler Chad Keegan struck three times.

He trapped Steve Bullen leg before for 22 and bowled Owen Alsop for 15.

Jack Taylor sent back Tom Bowler for 12 before Keegan wrapped up the innings at 223 by having Simon Rose caught by Richard Kaufman for a duck.

Keegan, who bowled at a lively pace, finished with figures of 4-71 on his county debut.

Facing a deficit of 73, Oxon lost Kaufman for 13 with the score on 21, but any thoughts of a collapse were quickly dispelled by Damian Shirazi and Alex Jewell.

They put on 122 for the second wicket to make the match safe, before both fell to medium pacer Henry Langford.

Shirazi reached a half- century, his 59 coming off 138 balls in 182 minutes and containing nine fours.

Jewell made 48 and later Rob Williams and Jack Taylor got in some useful time in the middle, before the latter became Langford’s third victim.

Williams finished unbeaten on 39 and the teams decided to call it a day at 5.15pm with Oxon on 220-4 from 70 overs.

Langford finished with 3-31 from his 14-over spell.
