A big field of 57 anglers contested the fourth round of the Oxford Winter League on the Oxford Canal from Kidlington to Oxford and the weights were impressive.

With the weather still mild and few boats moving around, the canal fished well in most sections, with those closer to the city the most consistent.

Kevin Holmes (Sensas A4) was pegged on the willow tree up from Aristotle Lane bridge and triumphed with 12.2.0.

He caught one bream and some skimmers on punched bread fished on the pole, backed up with some perch on chopped worm.

Runner-up Darren Wright (Sensas A4) returned 10.4.0, comprising a chub and a net of perch on chopped worm on a pole fished tight against a wall below Frenchay Road.

Mark Bowerman made it a Sensas A4 1-2-3 with a fine net of quality roach on bloodworm on pole over joker worth 10.2.0 from opposite the tins below Yarnton Lane bridge.

Drennan GOT Baits duo Mick Denton and Tony Hobbs tied for fourth with 8.11.0.

Team-wise, Drennan GOT Baits came out on top with 43 points from Sensas A4 with 37 and FM Isis on 29.

League to date: 1 Drennan GOT Baits 7pts, 2= Sensas A4 & Turners 8.

The bream put in an appearance in the latest Kinloch AC match on the Oxford Canal at the Rock of Gibralter, but it was a bag of bleak which provided the winner.

Dean Bowerman used maggot or caster on the pole to tempt the tiny silver fish and also had a few roach to top the 15-strong field with 6.11.0.

Fred Harrison caught one decent bream, plus a few bits, for a second-placed 5.10.0, followed by Dennis Harris with 4.1.0, comprising a bream and bits.

A single chub of 4.4.0 on legered maggot was enough for Brian Mainland to take Tackley AC’s match on the Thames at Radley, where the roach proved hard to find for the six anglers.

Frank Malone had 1.7.8 of perch on waggler with either worm or pinkie for second, followed by Anthony Alder with a bag of bits for 11 ounces.

Ten Kidlington AS anglers travelled over to Clanfield for their latest match on the Thames, fished in bright, blustery conditions.

Jim Martin took top spot with a single chub of 4.15.0, plus a few bits, on maggot-feeder for 5.4.0.

Giles Cuss was second with 4.6.0 of gudgeon on the pole and maggot, and Tony Hoare caught 3.13.0 of roach on the stick and maggot for 5.4.0 and third.
