OXFORD’S dismal performance wiped out any hopes they had of making any progress in the £150,000 BAGS inter-track competition at the Stadium yesterday.

In their home leg, Oxfordslumped to fourth place overall behind Hall Green, Swindon and Perry Barr after a lacklustre display where only Minnies Starlet and Halls of Oran emerged with any real credit.

There were, of course, the usual missed breaks and crowding and the event was topped off with a last heat disqualification of Jell On Ben which summed up the day.

It appeared as they came off the last bend that the Nick Colton runner could prove Oxford’s only winner.

But 6-4 favourite Farloe Gambit crashed into the Oxford runner yards from the line and was quickly dispatched to to the rear leaving Perry Barr runner Charleys Lucy to pinch the verdict.

Then came the shock announcement that Jell On Ben had been disqualified for deliberate interference.
