Oxford Harlequins say won’t be underestimating Witney when the sides clash in Sunday’s Oxfordshire Cup quarter-final at North Hinksey (2.30).

Quins may have won their last two games after a poor start to the National 3 South West season.

But team manager Steve Chadbone said Witney, who play in the league below, will be a threat.

“We understand what the job in hand is,” said Chadbone. “It is to improve every week.

“We are getting stronger, but are taking nothing for granted.

“We have still got a couple of injuries. We are probably running at 80 per cent.”

Quins defeated Witney 17-8 in a rain-soaked semi-final last season, but Chadbone said their pitch is in far better shape than Hailey Road back in February.

“We are just looking forward to playing in better conditions,” he said.

“Hopefully, this year we can look forward to 15-man rugby rather than ten-man rugby.

Prop Simon Chadbone returns as captain after a groin strain, while full back Paddy Smith also starts after injury.

Flanker Josh Rihan and scrum half Jack Birks come into the Witney squad after some good displays for their second team.

James Lamb returns to the back line in place of his brother Henry, while fellow three-quarters Joe Collins and Will Bibby are added to the squad.

Hooker Charlie Quarterman and lock Charlie Bennett are added to the pack.

Wallingford have pulled out of tomorrow’s home clash with Chinnor, saying that they cannot field a full first team.

Chinnor head coach Jason Bowers is happy to give his players a week off following Saturday’s pulsating National 3 South West victory over Bournemouth.

“It is a good opportunity to rest after a couple of bruising weeks, said Bowers, whose side receive a walk-over.

“After last week, we are all pretty happy. That was one of the best performances from a Chinnor side for many years.”

Henley Hawks will field a second team for Sunday’s tie at Alchester, but should have too much for the 2010 and 2011 Oxfordshire Shield winners.

The other tie sees Grove host Oxford Brookes University.

In the Oxfordshire Shield, trophy favourites Chipping Norton have been handed a walkover by Didcot, who could not raise a side for tomorrow’s quarter-final.

Wheatley host Littlemore, while on Sunday, Gosford All Blacks face Faringdon and Blue Boar visit Abingdon.
