Following another poor display in the Midlands section of the £150,000 BAGS Inter track at Yarmouth on Monday, Oxford were hoping for better things in the make or break leg at Swindon yesterday.

However, once again the Sandy Lane outfit struggled.

They are now firmly at the bottom of the pile and can kiss goodbye any chance of landing the big money.

The Richard Yeates-trained Mad Mash Monkey got the nearest to anything positive with a second spot, but the rest failed to impress.

Swindon became the first track to win their own leg and emerged with a narrow lead overall edging Hall Green by one points and Monmore by two.

Oxford now have to travel to Hall Green and Parry Barr in their final two legs, and to say they have a mountain to climb is an under statement.

Meanwhile, it may have been a bad day at the office for the Oxford runners in last week’s BAGS inter-track championship, but the Stadium itself came top of the hospitality stakes.

A full English breakfast was on offer for all the participants and local owners and trainers and it went down very well!

What’s more, after the meeting, sandwiches and a drink were provided, but it was a pity it wasn’t a day for Oxford to celebrate on the track.

Racing Manager Gary Baiden said: “It was the least we could do when you consider that two runners from Yarmouth had to set out at 4.30am.”

Yarmouth, bottom of the pile at the start of the day, surprised many with two victories on the day.

Jell on Ben, disqualified when looking like winning, is to try his luck over hurdles.
