Peter Foley a well-known figure in Oxfordshire’s boxing community, died on Sunday aged 54 after suffering from stomach cancer.
Mr Foley had a lifelong association with boxing, performing a wide variety of positions.
Based in Swindon, where he was secretary at Penhill ABC for two decades, he was also a popular figure in Oxford’s boxing scene in roles as a judge, referee, time keeper and master of ceremonies.
He was an experienced boxing journalist, covering the area for the Oxford Mail for many years.
Mel Corrigan, theBerinsfield ABC head coach, said: “He will be sadly missed by the boxing world around here.
“He was very well thought of. He was a lovely-mannered man. He had his own wit about him and the kids liked him.
“He was well-respected in our area, and judged at my shows on numerous occasions.”
Faz Keyani, coach at Oxford Boxing Academy, where Mr Foley joined as an official in 2001, said: “All the memories that we have shared with him will be cherished and remembered. Peter will forever live in our hearts.”
A funeral service will be held on Monday May 28 at St Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Tovey Road, Swindon (1.15pm), followed by interment at Kingsdown Cemetery (2.30pm).
