Oxford Saints continued their impressive start to the BAFA Division 2 West season with a 42-6 victory over Bristol Apache at Abingdon RFC.

After a 41-0 victory over Gloucester in their opening match, Saints again showed that they are capable of challenging for honours with another dominant display.

Dean Bryan got them off to a flying start, scooping up a blocked punt and racing away for the opening score.

Stephen Bentley then ran 60 yards to double the lead.

They put even more distance between themselves and their opponents when last week’s hat-trick hero Chris Ellis drove into the endzone from two yards.

Just before the break, Saints made it 28-0 when Rob Malia intercepted and ran in for an apparent 103-yard touchdown.

But an infringement saw the score disallowed.

However, it wasn’t long until Saints went 28 points to the good, Harry Carr breaking through multiple attempted tackles to score.

They made it 35-0 midway through the third period when James Walter dived over for a ten-yard touchdown.

Despite Apache finding occasional gaps, Saints started to close the game out.

However, their opponents did get on the board when Scott Meredith scored.

But this only fired up Saints even more and they produced a strong finish to the game.

They rounded off the scoring when, after some strong running from James Ferrigno, Carr and Troy Smith, Randall touched down.

The extra point was added by Jonny Dover – as he had done on the previous five occasions – as Saints eased to a convincing win.
