LONDON Welsh have assured Oxford United fans they will not have priority over the U’s when it comes to using the Kassam Stadium.

Many fans expressed concerns with an interview managing director John Taylor gave after Welsh’s Championship play-off final victory over Cornish Pirates on Wednesday night.

But Taylor, whose side will play in the Premiership at the Kassam next season if they win their appeal against an RFU ruling, clarified his comments in an email to the Oxford Mail.

“I definitely did not say and was in no way inferring that London Welsh would have priority over Oxford United when it came to usage of the Kassam Stadium,” said Taylor.

“I was saying we had been assured the ability to honour fixtures as and when Premiership Rugby scheduled them was the purpose of what are misleadingly described as ‘primacy of tenure’ regulations, and that the football and rugby governing bodies had proved ground-sharing was not a problem.

“Please reassure Oxford United fans this would be a partnership and there is no question of us trying to push them out. It could be a match made in heaven with both seeing financial benefits.”
