SKIPPER Freddie Smith and all-rounder James Coles produced super performances as Oxfordshire’s Under 15 side recording a thumping victory over Isle of Wight.

Smith hammered a sensational unbeaten 156 as Oxon racked up 313-6 at Magdalen College School.

He was given valuable support from William Hammersley (79) and Oliver Deans (77) to leave the visitors with a big run chase.

And it was a total that proved far beyond Isle of Wight.

Coles was the star with the ball, returning 5-18 to seal an emphatic 205-run victory.

Oxfordshire’s Under 13 side lost by one wicket in a thrilling clash with Northants at Overstone Park CC.

Alex Laird hit 50 as Oxon, who won the toss, scored 148-9 off their 40 overs.

The hosts lost wickets regularly in reply, but scored well meaning the match was always in the balance.

Charlie Turner took 3-17 off six tight overs for Oxon, but the hosts edged home when Rohan Kundaje hit a boundary in the 36th over to edge his side to victory.

Christopher Hofen took six wickets as Oxfordshire Under 12s defeated Nortants by 20 runs at Weekley and Warkton CC.

Kalan Niyarepola top-scored with 46 as Oxon were dismissed for 177 in 39 overs.

Julian Laird (30) and Henry Nicholls (28) shared an opening stand of 68.

Hofen then took centre stage, returning superb figures of 6-25 off7.2 overs to secure victory.

l OXFORDSHIRE’S women stayed top of the County Championship Division 3 Group C table after a seven-wicket win over Gloucestershire.

Rachel Potter (3-14) and Ellie Norton (3-22) helped bowl the visitors out for 90 at Bicester & North Oxford, before Oxon cruised home.

Abi Norgrove returned superb figures of 5-3 as Oxfordshire Under 15 Girls beat Nottinghamshire by 55 runs.
