TWO injury worries were the main concern for Oxford United as they lost their final Nationwide Conference game 1-0 to York City at sunny KitKat Crescent on Saturday.

Goalkeeper Billy Turley was unable to play, despite being named on the teamsheet 45 minutes before the start, after hurting his thumb in the warm-up.

There were fears that it might be dislocated, but that was downgraded to bruising.

Luke Foster, playing in a holding midfield role against his former club, injured his ankle in a bad challenge from a York player after a quarter of an hour and had to go to hospital for X-rays.

The Minsterment won the game with a fine 38th-minute goal from Neal Bishop, who was probably the game's best player, to book their place in the play-offs. They finished fourth and will now meet Morecambe in the semis, while Oxford United take on Exeter City with the first legs at St James' Park this Friday.

At half-time it looked as though Jim Smith's men would be heading to Burton, as Nigel Clough's team led Rushden 1-0 while Exeter were losing at home to relegated Southport.

But Exeter hit back to win 2-1, and Rushden did likewise to leave Burton out of the play-off positions.

The York game was fairly meaningless for the U's, and Smith rested three key players for the semis - Phil Gilchrist, Chris Hargreaves and Martin Foster.

They, plus Turley and Yemi Odubade, who came on for the final 19 minutes, all look like probables for the starting line-up at Exeter.
