DIDCOT Town goalkeeper Leigh Bedwell has been called up to the England C international side.

And a further boost for the club saw midfielder Seth Humphries named on the stand-by list by boss Paul Fairclough for a trip to the Falkland Islands to take on the RAF next month.

The England C team – the international side for non-league players at Step 4 – fly out of RAF Brize Norton on November 7.

The pair were shocked, but delighted with their selection.

“It’s the stuff of dreams,” said Bedwell.

“After the summer we’ve had with the World Cup, it’s a proud moment to be called up to represent the country at any level.

“It’s a great honour. I don’t know if they sing the national anthem, but I’ll be belting it out if they do.”

Humphries added: “As a kid, you dream of this sort of thing.

“It’s once in a lifetime, and it’s amazing – something I never thought would

happen.”

The duo could be in action tonight when Didcot travel to Marlow in the first round of the Berks & Bucks Senior Cup.

  • WANTAGE Town bounced back from their agonising Emirates FA Cup second qualifying round replay defeat to beat Royal Wootton Bassett Town 3-2.

Wantage remain second, four points behind Ascot United but with four games in hand.

Ardley United lost 5-4 at home to Fairford Town in a thriller, while Shrivenham
