OXFORD City boss Mark Jones has called on his side to build on last weekend’s magnificent victory at Billericay Town as they entertain in-form Truro City in Vanarama National League South tomorrow.

City upset the odds to end Billericay’s long unbeaten home record with a 3-2 win in Essex.

But Jones insists that result will count for little if they cannot string back-to-back performances and victories together.

Jones said: “The performance at Billericay has to fill the boys full of confidence. There was a massive feel-good factor after that game, because of the manner in which we won the game.

“The fact that we went 1-0 down and were really under the cosh, but then fought back so strongly, gave us all a real lift.

“To find ourselves 3-1 up, and then Billericay really coming back at us, we really had to defend for our lives, and the boys did just that.”

Truro are on a good run themselves, unbeaten in the last five games, and Jones knows his players must not under-estimate the threat posed by the Cornishmen.

He added: “We have to put a run together and move up the table.

“There’s only six points between 11 teams in the division, so it’s all very tight.”

“Truro are on a great run of form, and they are a very capable side. If we aren’t switched on from the start, we could come unstuck and all the good work from last week would count for very little.”

Josh Ashby remains sidelined with an ankle injury, while Ben Jefford’s troublesome Achilles continues to cause concern.

Youngster Ben Barrett, a midfielder from City’s academy side, retains his place in the squad.

“I’ve got a record of giving young players their chances,” Jones said.

“I gave Udoka Godwin-Malife a debut at the age of 17, and Ben deserves to be in the squad.

“He’s been very good for our youth sides, and it can only be a good experience for him to spend some time with the senior side.”
