OXFORD City remain without a victory in 2019 after a 2-0 defeat at Truro City on Saturday.

A goal in each half – both from long range – saw the hosts earn all three points in the Vanarama National League South clash.

Ben Rowthorn found the top corner after 22 minutes, before Dan Rooney completed the scoring with 20 minutes to go.

Steven Caro, replacing the suspended Craig King between the sticks, was called into action in just the third minute, making three point-blank saves as a corner caused chaos in the City box.

Kyran Wiltshire spurned a half-chance for the visitors, before Truro took the lead.

After some neat passing, Rowthorn fired in a shot from 30 yards which beat Caro and found the roof of the net.

City’s best chance of the game came just after the half-hour when Kabongo Tshimanga crossed for Wiltshire, but home defender Aaron Bentley produced a superb clearance to deny what looked a certain goal.

Boss Mark Jones made two attacking substitutions just after the hour-mark as the visitors looked for an equaliser.

But their hopes were soon in tatters as Truro doubled their lead.

Rooney unleashed a swerving effort that beat Caro to make it 2-0.

Although they looked for a way back into the game, Truro’s defence were rarely troubled as City’s poor run of form continued.

They have slipped to 14th in the table and next week host high-flying Billericay Town.
