EDDIE Pepperell will learn tomorrow whether he has made Europe’s team for this month’s Ryder Cup match against the United States.

The Frilford Heath member has been on the fringes of automatic qualification for golf’s showpiece event in Paris, after finishing fifth in the Open Championship at Carnoustie.

He would have sealed an automatic spot with a victory in the Made In Denmark tournament at the weekend.

However, his joint 56th place finish means that he has to rely on becoming one of Europe captain Thomas Bjorn’s four picks in his 12-strong team, which he announces tomorrow.

Bookmakers have Pepperell as a 40-1 long shot to make the team, as he will be up against the likes of Major winners Sergio Garcia and Henrik Stenson, Ryder Cup legend Ian Poulter and the experienced Paul Casey, who are odds-on to be chosen.

Other players likely to miss out are Spaniard Rafa Cabrera-Bello and Belgian Thomas Pieters, both of whom shone in Europe’s decisive defeat at Hazeltine in 2016, and Scotsman Russell Knox.

The three-day match starts on Friday, September 28.
