OXFORDSHIRE’S Eddie Pepperell hit a hole-in-one to get into a share of the lead at the British Masters today.
The Abingdon golfer aced the par-three ninth at Walton Heath – the ball spinning into the hole after appearing to strike the flag.
And his sensational run got even better with a birdie at the next hole, followed by an eagle three at the par-five 11th which saw him take the lead.
Bogeys at the 13th and 15th holes saw him drop back to four-under.
But a birdie at the 18th was enough for Pepperell to return to the top of the leaderboard alongside the likes of Tommy Fleetwood.
“My eyesight is going a little bit, so I wasn’t sure what happened,” he said.
“But it’s awesome.”
Pepperell is set to earn £20,000 for charity after his hole-in-one, joking:
“I’d rather do that than win a car - but that might be a lie. I’m kidding of course!”
The Frilford Heath member tees off his second round at 8.10am tomorrow.
