MATT Ferguson says London Welsh are not thinking about the prospect of relegation and are solely focused on winning their first game of the season, writes JACK JOHNSON.

The Exiles’ Aviva Premiership future will be decided if they lose at Exeter Chiefs on Saturday and second bottom Newcastle Falcons beat Leicester Tigers on Sunday.

The Exiles have lost 26 consecutive matches in all competitions this season and are rooted to the bottom of the table with just one bonus point.

However, assistant coach Ferguson says the prospect of being relegated back to the Greene King IPA Championship is not on his mind.

He added: “What happens mathematically this weekend is neither here nor there.

“We’re all about trying to find that elusive first win.”

Welsh were heavily beaten 50-12 by tenth-placed London Irish on Saturday after conceding 38 points in the first half alone.

Ferguson continued: “You are not going to win at any level if you give the opposition that kind of head start."

“If we continue in that vein it will only get harder for us.”

Hooker Rob Elloway added: “We need a bit of luck but I do believe there will be a chance to get the first win.

“We have to believe.”
