A JUBILANT Jolyon Palmer has set his sights on winning in Formula 1 after securing his future.

Palmer, the 25-year-old British rookie, has secured a second season with Enstone-based Renault.

After enduring a testing start to his career, the Englishman has steadily improved throughout the season, scoring his first point in Malaysia last month.

“For me this year was a great chance to show what I could do,” said Palmer ahead of tomorrow’s Brazilian Grand Prix.

“The car was not fantastic so the objective at the start of the year was to stay with Renault.

“Now I am setting my sights higher. I want to get on the podium, win a race.”

Meanwhile, Grove-based Williams driver Felipe Massa knows it will be an emotional last home race.

The Brazilian is retiring at the end of the season and said: “I will do everything I can for my people and for Brazil in my last race at home.”

  • ALICIA Robinson has been crowned the 2016 A Class Ladies British Trial Champion.

Because of her age, the Didcot 14-year-old, who attends King Alfred’s Academy Wantage, had to get special permission to compete in the top youth category after winning the B Class title.

But she saw off older and more experienced rivals to land the crown.

  • JAMES Hall said he was still on a high, despite narrowly missing out on a prestigious award.

The Witney junior flew made the top-three of the Professional Motorsport World Expo Rally driver of the year award.

Although he was beaten to the top honour, Hall was thrilled with his appearance at the three-day exhibition and gala dinner in Cologne, Germany.

“The dinner was tremendous, to be involved with that class of people, the atmosphere was indescribable,” he said.

“Unfortunately, we didn’t make it to the top, but I’m not disappointed, I’m just determined for next year now.”
