Water filter maker Brita has revealed it is to axe about 12 staff.
Bosses say that while demand for filters manufactured at the Bicester site remains firm, the strength of the euro has led to the German company’s costs increasing by 30 per cent this year.
Corporate affairs manager Anna Gilbert said: “We are a subsidiary of a German company and all our products are bought in euros, including raw materials.
“This has meant a 30 per cent increase in our costs which we could not pass on to our customers.”
Ms Gilbert added that major retailers were also holding less stock due to the recession.
Consultations have started with staff with both managerial and administrative roles affected.
Brita moved its UK operation to a new £10.4m factory in Granville Way in 2004 and employs about 140 staff.
