We theatrical types can be a superstitious lot, and one of the most common things to be wary of is to not utter the name of “the Scottish play” inside a theatre, for fear of invoking bad luck.

So it’s a good job that Tomahawk Theatre’s upcoming production of Macbeth is taking place outside.

Following its sell-out production at the Oxford Castle courtyard earlier this month, pictured, the group is coming to the Dorchester Abbey Cloister Garden at 2.30pm on Sunday, July 21, for a one-off performance of this Shakespearian tragedy for charity.

The tumultuous tale of treacherous ambition and the struggle for power promises to be an action-packed two hours filled with fighting, music and dancing.

Proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to Operation Exit 7, a programme in support of Christian charity the Nasio Trust which runs day care centres in Kenya to help orphaned children.

Tomahawk member Chris Gladwin said: “The show’s been running at Oxford Castle for two weeks and John Cornelius of the Nasio Trust contacted us to say he was interested in raising some money. It’s the first time Tomahawk has done a charity performance. We always do a Shakespeare play every year at the Oxford Castle – we’ve become the resident group there.”

Mr Cornelius said: “Chris is my son-in-law and he was happy to help. The charity is taking children from the local area to Kenya later this year to provide support.”
