Party-goers heading to the Zodiac this New Year's Eve can be forgiven if they find themselves doing a double-take.

For up there on the stage, where you might reasonably expect to find a band or DJ, will be the unlikely spectacle of a garden shed - complete with hanging baskets, gnomes and even a little lawn.

But while most sheds provide shelter for seed trays, watering cans and harassed horticulturalists, this funky hut is kitted out with decks and a whacking great stash of the finest soul, funk, reggae and rock & roll.

It's called the Disco Shed, and is the creation of East Oxford DJ Aidan Larkin and sidekick Peepshow Paddy, who will be spinning tunes 'allotment-style' from midnight to 4am.

"The idea came about during a summer party in our garden," explains Aidan, the force behind the Sky-Larkin' Soundsystem.

"The shed was there and it seemed the right thing to do, to put the decks inside and the speakers on the roof.

"The Disco Shed is an exact replica of the one in the garden, but is all on hinges, so it can be broken down and reassembled."

The shed made its first public appearances this summer, becoming a huge surprise hit at Truck Festival, in Steventon, and The Big Chill, in Herefordshire - where Aidan enlivened his DJ set with a new limb-tangling innovation - Disco Twister.

"I invented Disco Twister in front of the shed," he laughs, "We have a Twister mat and I call out the moves over the microphone. The more people that play, the better - and the faster the moves get!

"The Zodiac really is the place to be this New Year's Eve."

Appearing with Aidan and Paddy, will be a veritable Sky-Larkin' massive - featuring The Lovely Libby and assorted friends.

The Disco Shed Garden Party will round off a great night of music at the Zodiac - which once again features a Yoursong New Year's Eve Special. This New Year tradition sees some of Oxfordshire's finest bands playing a selection of covers, and each other's tunes - often with hilarious results.

The impressive line up includes A Silent Film, Nine Stone Cowboy, Place Above, Holiday in Vietnam, Ivy's Itch, Diatribe and Borderville.

The club's basement, meanwhile, will be transformed into Grosse Pointe High, as the crew from the Trashy club night recreate the US-style 'prom' you never had. As well as a great mix of guilty pleasures on the decks, the Ultimate 80s High School Prom Night will see up-for-it punters dressing up in prom evening dresses, tuxedos and frilly shirts - or as cheerleaders, jocks and nerds.

The night kicks off at 8.30pm, with live music from The Pussycats - a versatile covers bands who will bring you into the new year with a foot stomping set.

Helping get 2007 off to a swing will be DJ party animals Tommy Kneecaps, DJ Nelly B Page and The Lady Flysox.

Tickets are £12 advance - and if you turn up in fancy dress, you get a glass of bubbly. The night kicks off at 8.30pm and goes on 'til 4am. It is open to ages 18 and over. For tickets call Ticketweb on 0870 771 2000, online at Ticketweb http://www.ticketweb.co.uk/ or from the box office.
