Bordeaux is the world’s best known wine region and it holds a special meaning for us in the UK, originally for historical reasons and the ease of shipping wine across the Channel from the Gironde river. It is from here that some of the world’s most famous (and expensive) wines come — however it is possible to find some very good wines at really affordable prices and this case has been hand picked with quality and price in mind.

The Bordeaux case costs £117 and includes three bottles each of the following four wines.

Chateau Turcaud Sauvignon/Semillon 2008, Entre Deux Mers: So many Entre Deux Mers wines seem to lack freshness — not this one! This is a delightfully crisp and clean style that really refreshes the palate.

Chateau Haut-Gaudin 2003, Premières Côtes de Bordeaux: ‘Englishman’s Claret’– cigarbox, tobacco and cedarwood underpinned by good minerality. A superbly balanced wine.

Chateau Haut-Grelot 2006, Premières Côtes de Blaye: This merlot/cabernet sauvignon blend is full of superb aromatic fruit and lead pencil minerality — a well structured and memorable wine.

Château Nardou 2007, Côtes de Francs: Made from old vines that produce superb fruit concentration, this is a great merlot-dominated wine with rich ripe fruit.
